Project Carcade

Project Carcade is my attempt at installing a Raspberry Pi intro my 2006 Honda Civic and use it to play games on long roadtrips.

After getting the Civic in 2022 I replaced the headunit with bargain Sony unit that enabled Carplay and the like. I later discovered that the device has a TRRS Video input. So does a Raspberry Pi 3B+. An idea had formed.

Bill of Goods

Aka. all the stuff that I (so far) have used to make this project a reality.

  • Raspberry Pi 3B+
  • A microSD card (for storing the OS and the ROMS)
  • A headunit with a TRRS Video input (I use a Sony XAV-AX3250)
  • A TRRS Video cable (I picked up a long 3 meter one because I had a dumb idea about routing the cable somewhere “smart”)
  • A USB game controller (I have a cheap USB SNES clone, but 8BitDo makes some killer stuff)
  • A 12 volt stepdown to 5volt micro USB adapter (so you can power the Raspberry Pi without torching it)
